Rebecca & Martin
I woke about ten minutes before my alarm went off, about twenty past seven. I snuck upstairs for another cigarette and my CBM followed me up. Went to wake my sister afterward but she was already up. I brushed my teeth and retched, took me five minutes to recover, but it was my only wobble of the day. Our hair appointment was for 8am and we arrived on time. The girl had opened the salon especially and me & my CBM were back in the house for 9am!!! I had even managed to have a smoothie while I was waiting for her hair to be done. Finished off the last of my cigarettes (EVER) while we were waiting fro my mum and my sister to land out to the house. They arrived at the same time as the make-up artist, who re-did a few of my eyelashes before doing everyone elses face. In the middle of it the florist (who was also going to the wedding) arrived with the flowers. They were absolutely FABULOUS. Each of the BMs had a different bouquet and they were so lovely and bright.
The makeup artist left at about half eleven, by which time I had had more fruit and a croussant. Not a hint of nerves. I was actually getting a little bored waiting around so I popped into the bank to save me doing it the day after… I got some funny looks.

As I arrived back the girls got into their dresses and the photographer arrived. Suddenly the time really flew, and he was doing various shots of my bits & pieces. I then got into my dress, cue a few more photos. Suddenly the car to take me to the church arrived. My CBMs dad had borrowed a Jag as a wedding present. I had warned everyone that I would be on time, and CBMs dad sent the BMs ahead to make sure that everyone was inside. Her brother rang once everyone was indoors and we pulled around the corner.

Few more pictures outside the church and with the rector and it was time to walk up the aisle. It was the only time in the day where I nearly cried. I heard my mum sniffle as we started the walk up and that set me off. I wish I had warned her they were playing her favourite tune. I saw my Dh at the top of the aisle beaming and I concentrated on him and walking really really slowly. He kept turning back to the altar and then back to look at me. It was like it was only him & me, such a magical feeling.

The service absolutely flew. Walking up to the altar to light the candles was funny, as when I cam back down I had to do a semi-circle as I could turn straight around with my dress. Once we said our vows we also got a giggle because my fur shrug had rubbed of on DH and I had such and urge to pick off the pits of fur on him. Eventually I caved in….
When we were saying our vows we looked straight at each other and it was like it was just the two of us and nobody else around.
The third hymn that was sung, the singers had different lyrics to the congregation. And the Rector muttered “where did they get those words?” and I thought he meant me, but no it took a second. It didn’t matter in the end though. I don’t even know if people sung along or not!
All of a sudden we were husband and wife and walked out of the church beaming! Cue more photos but onside and outside the church. One of my cousins from Germany asked if he could ring the church bell and the Rector agreed, although he said it’s normally only used for funerals! It got a great reception. I’m hoping there will be some nice pictures of the bubbles too. The florist did a fantastic job decorating the church and the pew ends looked really pretty.

The bridal party went off to get more pictures done down by the lake and at a bridge (with the two BMS crouching down holding up my dress so it didn’t get wet) We were lucky with the weather, it was dry and sunny outside the church each time and it lashed rain when we were inside.
Once we got to the hotel and I got my 7up and Dh his champagne we took more pictures up in the function room. It looked so so pretty. It was the first time DH got to see all the little bits together, and he’s not used to seeing the function dressed like that. The cheese looked class, they did a great job putting it together and decorating it. They hadn’t put the sweets buffet out like I had asked and covered it with a tablecloth, but to be honest it didn’t bother me. It was just leaving them more work for later! We went down to the spa for a few more pictures and then it was time for people to go upstairs and be seated. We had a lovely twenty minutes just to ourselves in the bar before we went in to the Indiana Jones theme. It really got people going and it was a surprise for DH. He said a couple of words before the meal (very very very sweet words) and sat down. He said “I hope I didn’t forget anyone” I said “Grace”. He looked at me awfully puzzled ”what did I have to thank Grace for!!” Eh the Rector, ask him to say grace! He was mortified and had to get up again to get him to say grace. Twas very very funny.
The hotel included an extra course for us, so it ended up being a 5 course meal which was DIVINE. During the meal I popped round to each table and was chatting away to people. It was only then I realised one couple hadn’t turned up. I felt a bit bad for my friends as they were then just with a loads of my cousins who were German, but hey what can you do!
I am very impressed with you if you have made it this far! After the meal we had our first dance which we hadn’t rehearsed, but it was hard enough with my dress. I put on my flats but they were less comfortable then my heels and cut them. Thank God for bathroom baskets…..
The flip flops went down a treat and kept people on the dancefloor. The band were great and in the second half played loads of rock tunes. About an hour into the band starting DH came up to me and said there was a free bar. Apparently my mum’s partner had put on a limitless free bar. DH argued with him for twenty minutes over it but he wanted to do it, which is fair enough. It bothered me a bit because I didn’t want people to think we were so well off to be able to do that, plus I didn’t want people taking the piss, so when the band finished I overruled his decision (the benefits of knowing the staff). I surprised myself by dancing a lot of the night and we even made it to the residents bar, though not for long.

The next morning I got a text from my BIL welcoming me to the family. I snuck down to their room and borrowed a hairbrush because I had forgotten mine. I got to play with my nephew for a bit. Got some lovely compliments on the makeup bags I had put into the room too.
We got a round of applause when we come in to breakfast and it was so lovely to hear that people had enjoyed themselves. We doled out some of the cheese to people as there was some left. Unfortunately we had to go pretty soon after and didn’t get to catch up with many people, which was a pity.
Seiously if you have made it this far you deserve a medal. I’m sure I will think of loads of extra bits.
A shout out to some of the people involved
Makeup – Lisa Short, Sligo PM me for her number, she has just opened her own salon above Pazazzo (sp)
Band – Weightless Astronauts, Galway – They really rocked it and play in the Quays most Sundays I think. They were really professional and lovely lovely guys. They took all my suggestions of music on board and were fantastic.
Flowers – A family friend who did a phenomenal job at a really reasonable price.
Hotel - Cromleach Lodge – outstanding food and service along with such a gorgeous view.
Photographer - David Knight - Irish wedding photography - the pictures speak for themselves
Dress - Heart's Desire, Sligo
