We would always advise in asking the relevant questions below and asking for confirmation in writing before putting a deposit on any potential venue.  Hotel  managers may have a lot of weddings during the time you are getting married, and it would be impossible to remember everything off the top of your head.

Here are the standard questions you may like to ask.

  • What are the arrangements for greeting guests as they arrive?
  • Is there a drinks reception?
  • Will you have a red carpet?
  • What is included in their Wedding package?
  • Is there complimentary accommodation for the bride and groom?
  • Is there any reduction for wedding guest accommodation?
  • Are there special reductions for off peak times, i.e Mon – Thurs and certain months.
  • How do they display and organize the table plan?
  • Are Place name cards included?
  • Are menu’s supplied? How many per table? Are they personalised?
  • What flowers/decorations/Centre pieces are on the tables?  Can they be upgraded?
  • Do you provide flowers for the top table? Can these be upgraded?
  • How much can you incorporate your colour scheme/theme into the room?
  • Can you instruct them on setting the tables? Are there any restrictions?
  • Will there be somebody to put out the favours/table accessories?
  • What types of Cake stands and cutters do you have?
  • What type/shape of tables do you have?
  • What ideas do they have for placement of the tables/top table?
  • Do they do a table plan printout?
  • Can the hotel play music from a CD, or is there piped music in the hotel/venue complex?
  • What time will the meal be served?
  • What happens if there are delays with the wedding party?
  • Do they come around with more vegetables during the meal?
  • Will there be tea or coffee served after the meal?
  • How much wine will be needed?
  • Can you instruct on what can be ordered if having an open toast?
  • Do they allow you to bring your own wine? How much is charged for corkage?
  • Is there a vegetarian/special dietary requirements option?
  • Is there a children’s menu?
  • What wine would suit your chosen meal?
  • Can you have menu tasting?
  • When should the cake be left in, and where is it stored?
  • What time is the wedding cake served?
  • How much of the wedding cake is cut?
  • What is the best time the evening reception guests should arrive?
  • What time do you put out the evening reception food?
  • Is there a limit to the amount of evening guests you can invite (room size)?
  • How much evening food would they recommend?
  • How long after dinner/cutting the cake will the room be ready for the band?
  • How do we confirm the booking?
  • Payment – What percentage is paid before, and after the day?
  • How many rooms are allocated to the wedding party?
  • When do they ask for final numbers?
  • What costs are incurred if the numbers differ on the day?
  • Is service charge included in the overall price?
  • What is hotel policy on weddings? i.e one wedding a day.
  • How many waiters, bar staff are assigned to the wedding reception?
  • Bar extension, how to go about setting it up? How much does it cost?

Woman killed as her boyfriend proposes :(

This is just so sad.

Fiancee Killed by Lightning During Wedding Proposal - ABC News_1276088221503

Richard Butler   was about to ask Bethany Lott to marry him last weekend when the cruelest hand of nature interrupted. They were at the top of North Carolina’s Max Patch Bald , a 4,600-foot mountain on the Tennessee border.
Before the ring was out of his hand, the couple was struck by lightning. Lott, 25, was instantly killed and Butler, 30, was knocked down.

“She was probably five feet in front of me, so given the incline, she was a good bit higher than me, but it jumped to me,” Butler told the Ashville, North Carolina, Citizen-Times. “I was spun 180 degrees and thrown several feet back. My legs turned to Jello, my shoes were smoking and the bottom of my feet felt like they were on fire.”

Butler and his would-be fiancee braved the stormy skies and intermittent rain to take the hike she had wanted to take since they first dated. Her last words were reportedly, “‘God, baby, look how beautiful it is.”

John O’ Shea marries his sweetheart

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Irish Soccer star John O’ Shea married his childhood sweetheart yesterday in Maynooth.  They shunned the possibilities of glossy magazine deals, and settled for a beautiful June wedding in Maynooth, County Kildare.

There were plenty of celebrity guests, including Mrs Colleen Rooney and lots of Irish soccer players.  Two years ago, Yvonne caught the bouquet at the Rooney wedding.

Photographers were under strict instructions not to photograph the couple as they arrived separately for the ceremony.

The groom, in a grey three-piece suit, nervously bowing his head, arrived at the church at 1.20pm.

Forty minutes later his bride arrived, looking stunning in her ivory wedding dress, and with a skirt of ruffled chiffon and a small train. Her dark hair was swept into an updo under her veil and she held a bouquet of cream roses, their stems bound with crystals.

The three bridesmaids were dressed in a fashionable shade of nude. The ceremony was performed by John O’Shea’s parish priest, Fr Jim Crotty, from Ferrybank, Co Waterford, while the music was provided by a gospel choir.

The weather looked dismal over Ladychapel that morning, however someone had the child of prague out, as the raindrops stayed away.

Bride and Groom arrested

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

sham-marriage1In handcuffs and escorted by police, these are probably not the wedding photographs this bride and groom had in mind.

The 19-year-old Polish woman and her 30-year-old Indian husband-to-be were arrested after arriving at a register office.

They were arrested on suspicion of perjury after the registrar tipped off immigration officers about the suspicious ceremony.
Two male witnesses were also arrested on suspicion of assisting illegal immigration.

The arrests follow a major crackdown across the UK into sham marriages after the number of dodgy weddings rocketed by more than 50 per cent in 12 months.

An increasing number of EU citizens are marrying non-EU foreigners in a bid for them to gain visa’s so they can have the same rights as British nationals.

Officials from the UK Border Agency and officers from Thames Valley Police swooped on Oxfordshire Register Office in Oxford on Tuesday afternoon.

Passers-by watched as the bride – wearing a huge white gown – was led away in handcuffs. The groom was led out shortly afterwards.

sham-marriage2Maurice Walker, 54, said: ‘It looked like something out of a Hollywood movie. The bride was certainly blushing when she was taken away in handcuffs.

‘You don’t see a bride and groom leave their wedding in a police car everyday. It was extraordinary.’

Two houses in Oxford were also raided by police as part of the investigation.

Oxfordshire County Council, which runs the registration wedding service in the county, confirmed they had tipped off immigration officials.

Spokesman Marcus Mabberley said: ‘A report was made by us to the UK Border Agency about concerns regarding a potential sham marriage.

‘Oxfordshire County Council registration service takes such matters extremely seriously and we have a statutory duty to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.’

Official Home Office figures revealed there were 529 suspected sham marriages in England and Wales last year – up 54 per cent compared with 2008.

The UK Border Agency believes the tightening of immigration controls, the economic climate and efforts to clamp down on illegal working are to blame.

Spokesman Terry Gibbs said: ‘The UK Border Agency is committed to striking at the heart of illegal immigration and tackling those who attempt to break the rules.

‘And if we suspect a marriage is not genuine, we will take action.

‘People who plan on getting married have to have an interview beforehand to give notice of their wedding.

‘Registrars do this day in and day out, so if they believe something is not quite right with the couple, they notify us

‘An EU national has the right and freedom to live and work in Britain.’

They held the ceremony in their very private estate in the California Hills. The colour scheme for the wedding was black, chocolate brown and white and there were several outdoor lounge areas set up with French Regency-style couches, tables, lamps and mirrors.

A bar was set up with black martini glasses and tall vases held calla lilies and orchids.

Big hurricane candles flickered around the pool and putting green.

Tragedy strikes wedding couple

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

A wedding day is supposed to be filled with laughter and happiness, but the big day was bittersweet for one newlywed couple.

Tom Hanley, 23, and Lauren Magee, 24, were riding with their bridal party on a shuttle bus Saturday when the day turned tragic.

They were headed for wedding-day picture taking when the bus collided with another vehicle at a Downtown intersection, killing a groomsman and injuring more than a dozen other bus occupants, including the wedding couple.

Despite sorrow, bandages, bruises and cuts, the wedding party persevered, with the couple exchanging vows later in the day in a conference area of Methodist Hospital’s emergency room.

While they made the best of the situation, those at the wedding said they did not want to dwell on the tragic crash and death with the media.

A shuttle bus from Mavris Arts & Event Center carrying the bridal party was traveling west on South Street when it collided at Delaware Street with a northbound SUV about 2 p.m.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said one driver failed to stop for a red light, but police still were investigating late Saturday to determine who was at fault, said Lt. Jeff Duhamell, IMPD spokesman.

The crash spun the bus to face east, and it tipped to the side, landing on the northwest corner of the intersection. At least 16 people inside the shuttle were transported to Methodist and Wishard Memorial hospitals.

James Douglass, 29, Indianapolis, died in the crash. He suffered severe head trauma, Duhamell said.

Police late Saturday identified the bus driver as Gary Lowrey, 38, and the SUV driver as Camilo Ortega-Aldarbo, 27, both of Indianapolis.

Blood samples will be taken from both drivers and tested, which is protocol in a fatal crash, Duhamell said.

The bride works in IMPD’s crime analysis unit, he said.

The wedding had been scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Mavris, 121 S. East St. After the hospital wedding, the party did go there for a prayer service and dinner.

At the wedding, nurses transformed into wedding planners, gathering cookies and punch, setting up chairs and using hydrogen peroxide to get bloodstains out of dresses.

Carrying gerbera daisy bouquets, the bridesmaids and bride all wore hospital-issued socks, captured in a photo by the wedding photographer.

About 100 teary-eyed guests gathered for the short ceremony, where the bride and groom exchanged vows and rings.

“We got their medical needs tended to, and we found out they wanted to get married here,” said Kelly Owens, an emergency room nurse.

Owens’ husband picked up a replacement tuxedo for the groom, while security officers from Methodist went to Wishard to pick up the best man and rings.

“I’ve been here 10 years,” Owens said. “I’ve seen one or two brides come in, but this is definitely the first time we’ve done a wedding. It makes the best of a bad situation.”

The bride’s father, Chuck Magee, Dublin, Ohio, called the nurses “angels in blue” because of their blue scrubs.

“The ER staff has just been compassionate, professional and considerate,” Magee said. “Everybody seems to be in as good of spirits as can be expected.”
