Sweet Dreams Come True for Pippa O’Connor on her Wedding Day
A relatively new trend in weddings has well and truly arrived as Ireland’s newest celebrity couple ditched the tulle-wrapped guest favours and opted for a stylish candy buffet to make their wedding celebrations a day to remember. Ireland’s latest celebrity couple to tie the knot, TV presenter Brian Ormonde and model Pippa O’Connor, indulged their guests with a lavish, yet stylish, candy buffet from The Sweet Treat Co on Saturday in the Powerscourt Ritz Carlton and showed everyone just how it should be done!
Fast becoming a wedding tradition in many other countries, the mention of a wedding candy buffet in Ireland can still raise, or even lower, a few eyebrows. But the concept is simple. Storybook sentiment and nostalgia allows us to reminisce and brings us back to simpler, more carefree times. We’ve all seen that retro sweets are seeing a tremendous comeback. Making a feature of them at a wedding can be quite fitting to the special occasion’s natural emotions. Coupled with the fact that candy buffets can actually save costs, cutting back on dessert and separate wedding favours, makes the idea not so hard to imagine even for non-celebrities. Brian and Pippa chose The Sweet Treat Co for its unique approach to the Candy Buffet. Not only did the wedding candy table get the star-studded guests talking, it also added a touch of glamour and style. Everything from the candy jars & scoops to the table decorations and the sweets themselves were carefully chosen to fit with the theme and colour scheme and were personalised to the newly-wed couple. Eye-catching colours of solid royal blue, luscious raspberry pink and striking violet together made a stunning display and expressed the personalities of the bride and groom themselves – fun, vibrant and full of youthful glamour!
The candy buffet table from The Sweet Treat Co was set up in the ballroom, which was transformed into a very chic nightclub for the night. Of course, the bride’s personal favourites were filled to the brim. Curvy bobble jars and high gloss dazzling white vases were overflowing with bon bons, fizzy bottles, jelly babies, candy necklaces and oversized swirly whirly lollipops.
The Sweet Treat Co has become Ireland’s biggest advocate of the latest wedding trend and a household name for many brides-to-be. That’s not surprising when you meet the owner and see the passion she has for event styling and creativity. And the lengths that she goes to create that totally customised candy buffet are not only reserved for celebrities or those with deep pockets. Preferring to be known as The Candy Queen, she wants all brides to have fun when preparing their wedding day. “When I got married, the wedding day formula, and that’s almost what it was, was about as exciting as watching paint dry. I was so frustrated at the lack of original and unique ideas to play around with. You can have so much fun with a wedding candy buffet!”
