Trash the Dress – Drown the Gown

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

You probably spent months searching for the perfect gown.  Your bridal party made sure it didn’t drag on the ground on your wedding day.  However now it sits, or hangs in a wardrobe somewhere.  What do we leave it there for?  Are we expecting some day to need it for something in particular?

When I first heard of ‘Trash the dress’ a few years back, shivers went up my spine. ‘How could anyone want to ruin their dress?????’  However now my wedding dress is nearly 7 years old, and it is still redundant, a big pile of whiteness just doing nothing.

Trash the Dress is not a new trend, but is more popular now than ever before.  You can really get some amazing pictures from the session, and at least you get to hang them on your wall, and enjoy them for years to come.

Here are some cute trash the dress videos:

Tackling bad weather on your wedding day.

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Here we are, the 8th of August and you’d be forgiven for looking out the window and thinking it was November.  Before we experienced the last couple of ‘summers’, you would often hear ‘I chose July because I want a sunny day for the wedding’.  On the 9th of August 2008, we experienced very heavy rainfall along with thunder storms.  Met Eireann recorded the highest level of rainfall in August, and their second highest rainfall overall at their Dublin Airport station.  So what can we do to make the best of this weather; Plan ahead!

A professional photographer can use bad weather to their advantage. Kevin Morris Photography.

  1. Don’t check the forecast for at least 5 days prior to the wedding.
  2. Have a back-up plan.  Outdoor weddings are getting more popular, so talk to your suppliers about the possibility of bad weather and put a plan B in place.
  3. Purchase some sturdy large umbrellas.
Getting the all important photo’s

Photographers can really use the weather to their advantage, big stormy clouds make a massive impact to shots.  Some of the best photographs we have seen are on windy, cloudy days.  Picture a bride and groom standing, the veil blowing in the wind with dramatic clouds in the background.    Your photographer is an artist, so he or she will have already researched the venue where you are having photographs taken, and will have countless ideas.  Your surroundings after a shower of rain, can turn a dull landscape in to a shimmering, sparkley back drop.  Whereas a sunny day, you have blue sky, and while that looks great it isn’t as interested as a thundery sky.

So don’t worry, whatever the weather, things will be okay.

Have you had your wedding on a day with bad weather?  Tell us about it.
